THE BABY COMPETITION

A CHOICE OF CANDIDATES. A meeting of tho Baby Competition was.held yesieidny afternooii at Miss Eraser's residence, Tinakori Road. Mi's. W. I' , . Massey presided. A resume of what had been achieved sines the last meeting was given. In addition to the nominations of baby candidates already published in the newspapers, the following additional ones have been received:—The AVillis Street baby, Ko. 21; Kilbirnie baby, No. 22; letter-carriers' baby, No. 23; me theatrical baby, No. 21; Wellington South baby, No. 25.

It was : propo3od at tho meeting that the Mayor (Mr, J. P. Luke), who was present for a little while, Mr. Bayfleld, and Mr. Manlon bo formed into an ex■xutiye, with power to add to their number if necessary, to assist Miss Eraser. This was carried unanimously, as there aro matters in which it is desirable to set outside assistance, notably the mutter of scrutineers in connection with the count of rotas; and Mr. Manton will also assist Miss Fraser iu regard to the financial aspect of the competition by lookinp over the books at stated intervals. The nominators of babies will ba responsible, for tho sale of the ticketblocks issued to them, and they will hand over the proceeds fo Misa Fraser at stated times.

All proposed expenditure in connection witji the campaign lias to receive sanction befor.e being embarked upon by the various sub-committees who aro working for their nominees.

Miss Fraser proposed that more prizes bo given for the benefit of the outsida districts and suburb*, but (his motion was negatived by the ineeting. Various other matters were discussed, and another meeting is to , be held shortly. Previous to dealing- with (lie business of the afternoon Miss Fraser enteriuined all present at afternoon tea.
