HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
A meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held U'st - night. There were present Councillors J. Brassell (De-puty-Mayor), J. M'Dougall, H. JHobbs, W. Cotton, and W. Kerr. On the motion of Councillor Brassell, it was decided to give the staff and all council employees a holiday 011 Anzac Day, and to ask the tradespeople to follow suit. ' The Hutt Rugby Football Club was granted the use rf the.recreation ground and dressing shed during the ensuing season, on the understanding that the borough caretaker was to have absolute control of the ground, and that Sunday practice was to be strictly prohibited. A petition which was received for the construction, of a footpath from Melling Station to connect with the footpath laid down by the County Council was , deferred until consideration of the estiThe resignation was accepted of Mr. J. Hutton, of the clerical staff, who is to be given a testimonial under the seal of the council. Mr. Hutton has accept-, ed a position on the staff of the I'abiatua County Council. Pending receipt of a special report from Mr. Hugo, Inspector o fFire Boards, it was decided to renew the iiceuse of the Royal George Theatre for another* In "the course of his monthly report, the borough engineer (Mr. J. Gardner) recommended that the work of constructing Hume Street culvert be proceeded with, and that the eum of ~£lsO be placed on the estimates to provide new nameplates for all streets in the borough, The first Tccommondation was adopted, and the other will be considered.
