Tho Ellerslie trainer, A. Robertson, has decided to go out of the business, and Mr. C. MachcH's horses, Modditc, inability, Meltichikoli and rfca Prince, have gone into E. J. liae's charge. It is understood that tho three first-named will be given an opportunity to cam distinction as jumpot's during tho coming season.
It is understood that, a fairly substantial oiler has been refused for the lease of liadial, who won so well at Timarn last week. Ho is a brother to All Heady, and was sold at Zlgns. at the dispersal of tho late Mr. 0. Buckley's horses. liadial won in such good style that ordinary luck is only required to find him winning again. On hiß return to .Christchurch after the Manawatu meeting E-. J. Mason told a "Sun" reporter that Biplane contracted a cold on his way to tho meeting, and was not' fit to run 1 out a solid mile and a quarter. It appears that ho took Biplane north with the special object of running him in tho Gold Cup, and was just as much disappointed as anyone when it was found impossible to start him. Mason expresses tho opinion that tho incident has not yet reached finality. 1
At the conclusion of the Manawatu races the Yaldhurst mentor H. O'Donnell took Wishful, Kocsian, Cyresian, and Kilraoon on to Hastings for the meeting there this week. Mr. G. L. Stead went south last week, but is returning on Thursday and Vwill bo present at Hastings this week.
At Jfasterton last week the Hymettus— Dreadable filly got into a wire fenco and cut herseU badly. She will bo on the easy list for sonic timo to come.
Tho Mastcrton Eacing Club has decided to apply for October 17 and 18 as the dates for its spring meeting.
At the Mcthvcn Meeting last week the gelding Bomb, a member of F. D. Jones's stables, won a double.
Bajput has been sold out of the Porirua stables. His new owner is Mr. J. M'Donnell, of Bulls, and trainer! J. Coylo took charge of tho Eokcby gelding last week. During her career on the turf Desert Gold has won over £21,000 in stakes. It is quito on the cards that she will top the figures put un by Carbine, who annexed over £29,000 for his owner This cum included a £10.000 Melbourne Cup.
Tho anuual meeting of tho Marlborough Eacing Club will this year bo held on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 14 and 15. As the meeting does not clash with any other fixturo this year, it will probably be the most successful yet held at Eiverlands. The programme, ia a good ono and includes races i'or all classes of horses. There arc eight event* cacli day, six being for gallopers and two for trotters. Entries for al! events close on Friday next. Secretary E. J. Harney will be pleased to arrange accommodation for visiting hoi-BOS.
