TiiG ■ idea of "Tlio Cinderella Man" came to him after reading a fairy I story, "Tho Snow Queen." Alter put- I ting down tho book, lie thought of the fairy stories lie had-read,' and his mind ! dwelt on "Cinderella." Then the idea j suggested itself: Why not. a man who is like Cinderella? Tho next day ho sat down and started the play. It took him sis months to write. "But," as Edward Childs Carpeutcr says, "I have found it well worth tlio trouble." Tliero is a quaint Bohemian atmosphere about tho play that helped to make all the artistic world of .New York rush to eee it. This characteristic of the comedy is summed up in an incident that forms the central pivot of tho story. The sympathetic .daughter of a millionaire has for a neighbour a poor author who resides in nn attio room in an adjoining building. She resolves to visit him, bringinß him Bomo of the necessities she knows must bo lacking. So she makes her way across the intervening roofs to the author's poorly-furnished room, and presents him with a choice collection of dainty things to eat. This is done while tho lonely author is out. Later, a friendship springs up between the girl and the writer, ivjio thinks the millionaire's dauijhtei is tho companion of his neight>olll,. Here is a romance full of youth, bubbling with love and laughter, and a few tears to add to tho heart interest. Air. Scott Uilville, whu is interested in the New Zealand tour of The Strollers, announces that the company, headed by Mr. Sidney James, will commence a tour at Cliristclnirch on May 2, and will open in Wellington on May 2!). The company, which has been especially augmented for the tour, will play a number of smart revues and "polled" pantomimes.
