MAGISTRATE'S COURT
. POLICE AND CIVIL CASES. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday Mr. W. G. ltiddell, S.M., presided and dealt witli the police and. civil cases. . Riclhard Thomas Gilbert pleaded guilty to being an idle and disorderly person in that he possessed insufficient . lawful means of support. The defendant was found sleeping out in the Thorndon tramway shed at 2 a.m. yesterday. .Ho had been warned to get work, but failed to get any. His excuse wafr. that ho had only a little, mouey and was .trying to make it .spin out.". Ho applied for a job, but did, not' get .it. Ho was convicted and ordered 'to come up for sentence when called upon. For being found •in Riddiford Street i while in charge of a'motor-car John Marshall Savidge was fined .£3, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment. ' For' insobriety two first offenders were convioted and discharged., and another .who failed to appear ihad his bail of 20s. estreated. ■ ' . CIVIL -CASES. Thompson was ordered to pay Evelyn Servico 412 12s. by May 2, in default ten days' imprisonment... • CLAIM ON A BUILDING CONTRACT. Hpton and Shearer, buildo'iS, for whom Mr. A. W. Blair appeared, claimed from G. H. Thompson, of ■■Wellington, represented by Mr. D. li, Iloggard, the sum of 4Ht ss. 2d.', balance of moneys alleged to bo duo on tho completion of thoerection of two cottages. at Day s Bay, for defendant, together with . interest at tho rato of 10 per cont. per annum. A final certificate" had been received from tho architect, arid" when this had been forwarded 'to defendant' ho declined to pay.- For tho dofence it was contended;' tlhat the work had not been done according to tho contract-, despite tho fact of tho. architect's final certificate.
