TIIE SCHEME FOE. QUICK SUPPLIES TO THE ALLIES. New York, April 17. Tho question of utilising Australian wheat has been disuusscd by tho Agri.cultiiiial Departmont and the Shipping Board. Tho surplus will bo taken if the necessary shipping is obtainable. The United States has purchased 100,000 tons of shipping from Japan, the delivery of which begins in May and continues till September. A further 150,000 tons oi Japanese shipping is also being chartered. Efforts may be made to divert many of these ships to the Australian tmdo, but dofinite action will not bo taken, pending a couforcuco with Mr. u. M. Hughes—Aus.-N.Z.
