WEEK'S LOSS IN BRITISH SHIPPING ELEVEN BIG STEAMERS SUNK (Rec. April IS, 5.5 p.m.) London, April 17. The Admiralty report on the submarine campaign during the week gives tho following figures, last week's being given for comparison;— This Lost AVeek. "Week. Arrivals 2211 2531 Departures 2456 2495 Sunk over IGOO tons 11 4 Sunk under MiOO tons 4 2 Unsuccessfully attacked 12 11 Fishing vessels sunk — — —Aus.-N.Z. Cablo Assn.-Reutei'. FRENCH AND'ITALIAN RETURNS. (Rec. April 19, 0.50 a.m.) London, April 18. The French weekly shipping returns show that the arrivals totalled 1051, departures, 1063; sinkings, over IGOO tons, 0; below, 1; unsuccessfully attacked, 0. Tho Italian shipping returns give the total arrivals as 394; departures, 332; sinkings, one over 1500 tons, and a sailor over 100 tons. Unsuccessfully attacked, one. Aus.—N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reu-ter.
APPEAL TO SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRY
REDOUBLED EFFORTS CALLED FOR. (Rec. April 18, 5.5 p.m.) London, April 17. - The Press Bureau reports: "Lord Pirrie urgently appeals to the shipyard workers, employers, and all connected with the shipbuilding industry to redouble tho splendid efforts they have .already made, reminding them that they can take an almost direct part in countering tho enemy's offensive, which has thrown a greatly increased burden on the Allies' resources.—Aiis.-N.Z.
