J.H.M.—There are two iand taxes payable in •each State in Australia: one is levied by the Commonwealth. Government and the other by the Stato Government. A land tax was first introduced by the West Australian Government in 1907, wnile the .first kind tax imposed by the Commonwealth Government .was in 1010. There were no exemptions for absentees under the Commonwealth Act, and possibly you are now being called on to pay under the State Act of 1907, because of some amendment of the law which brings you within the scope of the Act,
