PROFESSORS AND "SOUND DOCTRINES"
THE ALEXLANDRA HALL MEETINGS Mr, R. M'Callum said at last 'evening's meeting of the Victoria College Council that ho had heard that somo of tho university professors were teaching doctrines which were "not in tho interests of our civic life." They were called "the Alexandra Hall crowd." Ha thought that the pvofwsors should go to Alexandra Hall, butthat they should teacli good doctrires. If they (there taught Red Fed. doctrines tho council should not uphold them. A member of tho council interjected an objection' to Mr. M'Callum's remarks. Mr. M'Callum: It is all right. 1 do not say that thev should not go to Alex-' ondra Hall, but that they should go and teach sound doctrines. Professor T. Hunter: 1 r-in, 1 think, one. of tlio professors referred to. The Hon. .T. G. W. Aitken interrupted! Ho did .not think that Professor Hunter would be wise to reply. Mr. M'Callum: I think he should certainly be allowed to reply. It would be most unfair otherwise. Professor Hunter: I don't tmnk there is anything to reply to. Mr. M'Callum says that we should go and teach sound doctrines. I Bhould like to ask, Who is to be the judge of vhnt is sound doctrine? I believe that a teacher should teach exactly what lie thinks. Once ho ceases to have the moral courage to do that —."
