A LIFETIME CAB. Mr. John W. Bate, the great efficiency engineer, lias, in designing the "Mitchell " aimed at a lifetime car. Two Bate-built Mitchells, stil! hi good condition, have run over 200,000 miles apiece. Seven uf them are known io have averaged over 175,000 miles apiece, or mtfre than 30 years' ordinary service. So far as we know, no other cm , ever built has approached those endurance | records. : I Those records, however, were made by Mitchell, built under former standards i of 50 per cent, over-strength. That was ! the standard Mr. Bate adopted years I ago. It made him, at thiic lime, seem I an extremist. Other engineers nrgti.-d that in ordinary driving no euch margin ' of safety was necessary. But lliat o\erstrength is what made Mitchell Cars render their marvellous service. • But three years ago Mr. Bate 6pent a year in Europe. There he found a standard, amongst foremost engineers, of 100 per cent, over-strength. That standard was based on European roads. It would not mean '.hat much margin here. ' But it suggested to Mr. Bate the same double strength, based on lees favourable conditions. Sinco then Air. Bate has constantly worked to double ou.r margins of safety, lie lias worn out fifty cars in learning the needed strength. He has invented tests to prove that every vital part has twice the strength required. This year, for the first lime, we announce that Mitchells in nil important parts have 100 per cent, uver-streiigth. That is, they are built to twice the strength standards of the Mitchells which nuuli! those records. Over 110 parts arc built of toughened steel. All parts which get a major strain arc built of Chroniu-Viiimdium, and built over-size. , ~ . ■ Axles, gears, steering and driving parts are constantly tested for this double strength. The factory 'Uialyse all steels to ensure it, and parts are subjected to tremendous factory lusts. Cull and inspect the latest 5 and 7Models at' INGLIS BfiOS.
