PEOTEST AGAINST COUNCIL'S ACTIOiW At the Trades Hall last night a wellattended meeting cf delegate from political and industrial bodies was held to consider the action of the Mayor and tho Finance Committee of the City Council in refusing The use of the Town Hail for a public meeting to protest against the prolongation of the life of Parliament. The following organisations were represented:—The 800 l makers' Union, Tramway Employees' Union,. Dairy Employees' Union, Engine Drivers' Union, Timber Workers' Union, Pointers and Decorators' Union, Plumbers' Union, Storemen's Union, Grocers' Union, Brewery Employees' Union, Carpenters and Joiners' Union, Conchworkers' Union, Locomotive Engine Drivers and Cleaners' Association, Boilermakers' Union, Soft Goods Employees' Union, Amalgamated Society of Railway Servant* (Thorndon Branch), Cooks and Stewards' Union, the Women's Federation, Wellington North, Wellington South, and Brooklyn Branches of the New Zealand Labour Party, the Wellington Social Democratic Party, the Housewives' Union, the Women's International League, the Trades and Labour Council, and the 'Labour Representation Committee. Mr. A. Parlano presided. Mr. Kennedy (secretary of I lie Wellington L.K.C.) outlined the proceedings leading up to the refusal of the City Council to let the Town Hall to the Labour Party. After many pointed remarks by delegates present on the council's action, the following resolutions were unanimously | carried:—"(l) That this meeting place on I record its whole-hearted condemnation of' the action of the Mayor and Finance \ Coramitteo in refusing to allow the Lab- j our bodies .the v-se of the Town Hall for a perfectly constitutional purpose." "(2) That a demonstration he held next Sunday evening for the purpose of registerinn a public protest." The place of meeting and sneakers will bo advertised in the dailv Press.
