Sir Aiiokland Geddes, Minister of Nfc. tional Service, stated :that the Government was determined that no man over the present military age will bo taken if the aituation could be met by calling op men of the present military age. The age of twenty-five was selected for a clean out in the Civil Service, because above twenty-five there were men whowero really indispensable from the point of view of war effort. This did not mean that Civil Servants above 25 were not beins released as rapidly as possible. i Mr. J. I. Macpherson', Parliamentary Secretary to the War Office, replying to ' a question whether in view of the position in France it was proposed to permit hoise-racinz in the United Kingdom, said the Government saw no reason' to stop tho present limited programme, which was considered necessary to maintain tho important industry of horsed breeding.—Eeutef.
