Dr. Ryan was nearly 78 years of age, and had had a varied career. He graduated at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, in 1865, and became a member of the and Queen's College of Physicians in 1884, and when in 1915 he visited Great Britain he had tho degree of M.D. conferred upon him by tho National University of Ireland. As n young man Dr. Byan visited South America, and knew such places as Panamn, Callao, and Iqnique well. He was in Paris in 1670, when the Franco-Prussian War broke out, and he wrved in tho nrmy of Loire right through the war. On the declaration of peace Dr. Ryan returned to England, and soon after came to Australia.
