PRIVATE P. C. WEBB
HOUSE REFUSER LEAVE OF ABSENCE. "Mr. Webb, tight 6r wrong, is where ho is to-day from a senso of duly," said Mr. J. Payne (Grey Lynn), in the House of Representatives last night, when moving that leave of absence for the session should be granted to Mr. P. C. Webb, member for Grey. "Mr. Webb is nfc present serving a term of imprisonment on account of his refusal to military service, and failing the granting of leave of absence he forfeits his seat in the House for failure to attend during the session."
Mr. Payne added that it would be an "act of grace" to grant Mr. Webb leave of absence. He asked permission to move to that effect.-
The ■ Speaker said the motion at that stage of the proceedings could be put onlv by leave of the House. No objection was raised to the motion, which was put by the Speaker. The chorus of "Noes" was overwhelming, and Mr. Payije did not call for a division. The motion was declared lost.
