Sir James Allen left fnr the South Island last night. He will return on Friday morning.

Mr. J. H. Huntinglon, of Ngaio, hos received news that his son, Second Lieutenant Stanley Hustler Hnntington, tins died of wounds received in action. Lieutenant Huntington was )x>rn at Bradford twenty-six years ago, >nd came to New Zealand with his parents at the age of eight years.- He was educated at the Thorndon, Terrace, nnd Newtown High Schools. On passing the Junior Civil Service examination at the a»e of fifteen lit, entered the Agricultural Department, where he sained rapid promotion, and succeeded in posing the Senior Civil Service examination. He was later appointed to the Fields and l'arrna Department, and WB3. employed in visiting tn& various farms in the country districts. Just prior to his enlistment he passed the first step of the accountants' examination. On entering camp be secured his commission, nnd '.eft New Zealand with tho Thirty-second Reinforcements. He evidently received the wounds which caused his der.th almost immediately on his arrival in France.

Judge Ayson, of the Native Court at Rarotonaa,' is at presout in Wellington on leave.

Mrs. I. Mnnro, of Ferguson Street, Palmerston North, has received iwlvice that Corporal T. A. Mimro has ken admitted to hospital in England. ,
