BOWLS

NEWTOWN CLUB. Final, St. Patrick's Day tourney :- Hntnitni-J. Kershaw, W. R Chisholm. B. J. Barnes, E. W. Fountain (s.), 22; Newtown-L. Warwick. A. W. Manning. J. N. Astill, A. B. Dull (s.), 13. Tho playing of the final between the green winners of the Hutaitai-Newlown tournament was the principal fixture on Saturday on the Newtown green. As was to be expected, Iho green was fairly heavy after the rain, and so,> nltboueh the running- of the rink was true, there was not much of that finish on the work of the bowl which helps to count in important games. The Hatnitai rmlc ([uickly got to business, and when ten heads were passed were 15 to the homo team's one. The good leading of Warwick and Kershaw was very noticeaolo throughout the game, but the superior play, of Barnes and Fountain on the heads when Duff was likely to snore heavily continually wrecked the hopes ot a 'fighting chance for the Newtown vink, and the game finished as above Mr. George Scott, the. president of the Newtown Club, congratulated tno winners and the nmners-up on the merit, of their performances, nnd incidentally remarked that tho tournament had been a gratifying success from every point of view 'except that the rain had partly snoilt the first day's play. Messrs. Fountain (KMrdtai) and Duff (Newtown) suitably retiliwi on behalf of their rinks, and the tnurnsr was brought to a c.oso with hearty cheers for the visitors. • Underwood Memorial Cup. The final for ths above cup was played Iwtwepn J. M. Brackenridw and John p.rackonridze, both of whom have won the competition in previous years. On I his occasion the former got aiva,f|irlr, and being 25 to 11 up with three heads .to go, Brother Jack cried enough. Junior Handicap. L. Warwick, the winner of the Underwood Cup for the previous styw. finished up his junior career by winning the dial of the above ncinp»t!tio:i on Saturday, A. Trevor being the runnev-up. The green was closed for thf reason as soon as the above games were finished. THORNDON CLUB. A Tery interesting mntch took place on tho Thomdon bowling green on Saturday afternoon. As arranged, the officers of the club stood aside so as to let the members, participate in the friendly match with the suburban clubs, and a contest was arranged between team? skipped by the president and vice-president, nnd composed of as many officers r:f the club as were available. Up to the fourteenth head tho game was very closely contested. It was a ding-dong go from the start.
