THE WAR LOAN CAMPAIGN
WAR BONDS AT THE THEATRE A variation of the programme was made during the performance of Katinka" on Saturday evening by an impromptu sale of. vtar bonds on beha f of the commercial travellers of Wellington. During the first interval Mr. M. Carr etepped on to the Stage and introduced Mr. George A. Highland, fne producer of "Katinka, as {lie representative of their latest Ally, Amenca who desired to help forward the loan, for, as he would tell them, tho boys at the front still wanted a little more powder —more munitions. Mr. Highland, who was cordially received, delivered a moving speech, _m the course of which he said that lie, personally, had liought bonds of the Allies in every ' country ho had visited during tho last tun years-England, France, America, Canada, South Atnca— and he proposed to start the ball rouing that nwht by buying 1000 dollars worth «f bonds. (Applause;) He then asked for bids, and they came freely. Tho following is a list of the larger amounts subscribed in the theatre:-

At the final curtain Mr. Highland announced that, though the amount had not been Touched, his offer f till remained good. (Applause.) ~,,., "With smaller amounts subscribed, tiva total realised, by Saturday evenings effort nmounled to .£5025.
