Dr. Jaoks's books are gradually becoming better known to New Zealand readers, and I am glad to.see.an increasing number of them in tho bookshops. ' " ; ... Mr. Thomas Burke's stories of London Chinatown; "Limehouse Nights," have had a largo salo in. San Francisco, which, of course,, having a Chinatown of its own, takes a special interest in Mr. Burke's grim, stories. Years ago the late Prank Norris, of "The Pit" fame, wrote some stories of the 'Frisco Asiatic quarters, which, in their own way,'were quite as weirdly realistic as those of Mr. Burke.
