SEPARATION ALLOWANCES

UNDER CONSIDERATION BY CABINET. ' "Will, the Government give " the Second Division League an opportunity this session to renew their representations regarding increased pay and allowances?" aslced Mr. J. Anstey (Wuitaki) in the House of Representatives yesterday. "If not, what other opportunity will the Government afford to the league to present its case?" ' ( The Prime Minister replied that there' would bo uo legislation regarding • soldiers' ' pay or allowances (luring the' present session. "So far as allowances are concerned," he added, "the Government can alter the amount of the allowances at any time they think proper by regulation. I am not going to pledge the Government to increase the separation allowances. But the Bubiect of these separation allowances is under consideration by the Government at the present time.' That is all I'can say just now." _ The Minister, of Defence _ said that lie had read the statement just issued by the Second Division League. The league had raised some points in connection with homo service "men. He admitted that there wero anomalies there, and steps were being taken to adjust them. Generally speaking, the different grievances urged by the league were receiving attention.
