MR. WEBB'S SEAT

RESIGNATION POSTED. Mr. P. C. Webb, member for Grey, in a letter dated March 31, addressed to the "Maoriknd Worker," states that he has decided to resign his seat. Tlie letter runs as under:— "Just a few lines to inform you that I have posted my resignation as M.P. for Grey to Jim Pcott, and have just written to George Hunter requesting that the pnrtv should call on the Win-the-War Cry Party to get at least. 1000 signatures to a petition to the. Labour Tarty to forward my resignation on to the Speaker. If they {ail, send it along just when considered advisable. ]fc is quite certain I can't represent and look after the interests of the Grey electors in this place.

"I ani isolated here from all news, and intend writing Hon.'Wilford to have me removed to some other prison. I would rather do a term in Lyttelton, where one is in touch with the outside world. ... I am only permitted to write one letter a week, butcan receive any number. Since arriving hero, I have been further convinced that prison reform is still a.long way off, and hope to have something to saj* about it when I receive my discharge. "We are all in good licaltli and spirits, and more determined than ever to carry on tho fight, for Socialism and Freedom." A deputation of Labour representatives is to wait on tho Prime Minister on Friday morning to ask for the release from prison of Mr. P. C. Webb., It is regarded as certain that the request will be declined. The resignation of Mr. Webb has not yet been received by Mr. Speaker.
