The Hon. G. W. Russell has received advice that his son, Lieutenant Douglas Russell, of tho Twenty-sixth Reinforcements, was wounded on March 29. No particulars of the nature of the wouud wo available. Captain J. G. Coates, M.P., has again been wounded. The Minister of Defence made this announcement in the Houso of Representatives last night, but ho stated also that he was glad to say that tho wound was slight and that Captain Coates was remaining with his unit.

Advico lias been received that Captain John I. Chrystall of the 13th Hussars, and lato of Christchurch, has been awarded the Military Cross. He lias been on active service in Mesopotamia, for many months. Private D. B. Stevens, son of the lato Mr. John Stevens, of Palnierston, who has hc.cn with tho New Zealand troops in Palestine, is repotted missing. The Stevens family has a good war record. Four daughters are engaged in Red Cross work at tho front, and one, of tho tlireo sons who went on active service, Private Laurie Stevens, died in Franco, and Privates K. and D. ]]. Fisher, of Auckland, v/lio died whilo on a visit to Hamilton, recently, had resided in tho northern city for 53 years, having arrived there in tho ship' Maloka in 1865. He was formerly a member of the firm of F. and W. Fowler, and after his retirement therefrom a few years ago he founded, with others, the Auto Machine Company. Private advice bus been received that 2nd Lieutonant Arthur F. Laidlaw was killed in action en March 27. Lieutenant Laidlaw, who wns a son of Mr. Robert Laidlaw, sen., of Heme Ray, Auckland! volunteered in the early stages of tho war for service with the artillery, hut when tho dispatching of artillery reinforcements was suspended he voluntarily transferred to the infantry and entered camp as a private. Ho gained promotion rapidly, and in the examination for commissions gained second highest marks. Ho left New Zealand aa adjutant of tho troopship in which be sailed. After four weeks in England lie was drafted to France, where ho was in tho firing line for five months. A brothr, Lieutenant J. R. Laidlaw, of the Royal Naval Flying Corps, was killed in an aeroplane accident on April 17, 1916. The two deceased soldiers were associated in the firm of Laidlaw, Leeds, with their brother, Mr. Robert Laidlaw, the head of the firm, who is now tho only surviving son. Lieutenant Laidlaw has left ;■„ widow and a little girl. Councillor S. Clendon has resigned his seat as a member of the Hutt Rorough Council. It is understood that Councillor A. J. Hobbs will also resign, lioth councillors were signatories (with the Mayor) to tho circular recently issued in connection with a proposed testimonial to the ex-Borough Engineer (Mr. W. J. Roche). Lieutenant Stanley Natusch, son of Mr. C. T. Natusch. Wellington, has been promoted to the rank of captain. lie left as a private in tho Main Body, and is still in Franco. His eldest brother (Lieutenant Guy Natusch) has returned, and his younger hrother (Lieutenant C Natusch) is still at tho front. Lieutenant Douglas L. Robertson, M.A., killed in action on March 27, wns the eklesfc son of Mr. .7. A. Robertson, of the High Street School, Duncdin. He was educated at the Ota go Boys' High School, and obtained his M.A. degree with first-class honours at the age of twenty-one. He held positions m the Carterton District High School, the Wellington Technical School, and, at the time of his enlistment, he was day master at tho Wanganui Technical College. He was a good athlete, and while residing in Wellington was a. member of the Brooklyn Harriers Clnb and the Star Boating Club. Lieutenant Robertson leaves a widow and one child. His brother, Mr. J. H. Robertson, went to Samoa with the First Expeditionary Force, and is now Collector of Customs and Taxes at Apia. Mr. W. E. Fuller has been appointed the School Committees' Associations' representative on (he Wellington Technical Education Board. Mr. George Higgins, a well-known resident of Auckland, died at his home at Rocky Nook on Monday morning after a short illness. Mr. Higgins was 72 years of age. He was a native of Nottingham, and arrived in Auckland about 35 years ago. Lieutenant A. J. Beehan, who was killed in action on March 22, was the second son of the late Hon. W. Beehan. He was 22 years of age, and left New Zealand as second lieutenant in the Thirteenth Reinforcements, and was through the fighting at the Somme. At the Battle of Messines he was slightly wounded and gassed. On recovery he was promoted lieutenant. His younger brother, Corporal K. S. Beehan, left Now Zealand in the same reinforcement, and was also wounded at. Messines. He recently returned to Now Zealand. Mr. E. F. Black, proprietor of Cargen Hotel, Auckland, and Mr. R. A. Angus, New Zealand manager for Messrs. Thos. Cook and Son, are in Wellington, en route for the South Island. They aro at the Midland Hotel.
