RED JERSEY APPEAL

ROYAL COMIC OPERA COMPANY'S EFFORT. There seoms every likelihood that nest Saturday's matinee of the musical farce "Mr. Manhattan," which, is to be staged by the J. C. Williamson, Ltd., management at the Grand Opera House in aid of the R<;d Jersey Fund, will meet with the success it deserves. There has been a large number of inquiries at the Bristol regarding the booking arrangements, and a heavy demand for scats is expected when the plans are opened to-morrow morning. A special incentive to purchase a ticket other than the undoubted good of the cause will be the fact that the Williamson, Ltd., management have donated two £5 war bonds, which will be raffled during the performance on Saturday afternoon, so the lucky holder of the winning number may claim his prize ou the spot. Tho interest which has been aroused over the Salvation Army's effort to raise money to provide comforts for our boys in Franco was apparent at the Town Hall on Monday night, and it is to be hoped that the Royal Comic Opera Company will bo able to hand over a good sum of money for their effort on Saturday afternoon. A LIFETIME CAR. Mr, John W. Bate, the great efficiency engineer, has, in /designing the "Mitchell" aimed at a lifetime car. Two Bute-built Mitchells, still in good condition, have run over 200,000 miles apiece. Seven of them are known to have averaged over 175,000 mil 63 apiece, or more than 30 years' ordinary service. So far as we know, no other car ever built has approached those endurance records. Those records, however,, were made by Mitchell, built under former standards of 50 per cent, over-strength. That was tho standard Mr. Bate adopted years ago. It made him, at that time, seem an extremist. Other engineers argued that in ordinary driving no suoh margin of safety was necessary. But that overstrength is what made Mitchell Cara render their marvellous service. But three years ago Mr. Bate spent a year in Europe. There ho found a standard, amongst foremost engineers, of 100 per cent, over-strength. That standard was based on European roads. It would not mean that much margin here. But it suggested to Mr. Bate tho same double strength, based on less favourable conditions. Since then Mr. Bate has constantly worked to double our margins of safety. He has worn out fifty care in learning the needed strength. He has invented tests to prove that every vital part has twice tho strength required. This year, for tho first lime, we announce that Mitchells in all important parte have 100 per cent, over-strength. That is, they are built to twice the strength standards of tho Mitchells which made those record^ Over 4M parts are built of toughened steel. All parts which get a major strain are built of Chrome-Vanadium, and built over-size. , ... Axles, gears, steering and driving parts are constantly tested for this double strength. The fnolory -.iialyw all steels to unsure it, and parts are subjected to tremendous factory tests. 3 Call and inspect the latest 5 and 7nas«oneer Models at BROS. AND CO., LTD., 2t-26 Harrifi.
