LOWER HUTT AFFAIRS
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Htttt Borough. Council- was lielrl last evening. The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) presided, and thoro were present/ CounIcillors J. M'Doustall, W.'G. Jfeldrum, !J. Brasell, W. Cotton, W. Kerr, S.G. i Glendon, H. A. Ward, and A. Hobba. J JJr. W. Carter wrolo applying for lan asphalt footpath from Downer ! Street to tho end of his prpperty in Tront Street. The council decided to give consideration to the matter when tho estimates were being framed. Captain Slinn, of tho Lower Hntfc Volunteer Fire Brigade, submitted a j report in which it was stated that the j men were being weli trained and thu plant of the brigade was ample and in good order. Tho report was received. The engineer's report, which dealt with repairs and improvements to tho roads and footpaths, contained nothing of importance, and was adopted by thu council. • The Mayor reported that a garago j tvas being built within the borough which, ivafi not in accordance with tho I by-laws. There was a long discussion lon tho building by-laws and their enforooment.' In the building referred to by tho Mayor tho construction of tno building had boon commenced without a permit, but- an application for a permit had since been made. Thocouni cil decided not to grant tho permit. j The question of concreting the Main Hurt Road camo up for discussion, and I tho Mayor explained that nothing could bo dono until tho city minorities wore ready to proceed with tho work. ]t was decided to write to tho Board of Control inquiring what stops wero being taken to proceed with tho work.
