MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE AND MAINTENANCE CASES. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday Mr. S. E. iVI/Carthy, S.M., presided, aud dealt with the police and maintenance casts. Robert Taylor AYood was charged with being; lound drunk also with obscene exposure. On the application ' of Air. 11. l! , . O'Lcary a romaiid to AVednesday, April iO, was granted, and bail was allowed in defendant s own recognisance of £2u. William Graham, fer using obscene language in Manners Street, was lined £1(T, in default two Months' imprisonment, and foe being found drunk he . was convicted and discharged. For insobriety Alfred Ernest Packer and John Hyde wore each final i'Os., with the option of seven days' imnrisoument. Two first offenders who failed to appear were each fined 205., with the alternative of serving 48 hours in gaol. i Thomas Lyons and Alexander M'Lean were charged with using threatening behaviour in Taranaki Street, whereby a breach of tho peace was occasioned. From the evidence given it was apparent that M'Lean was the aggressor, and lie was fined £3, in default seven days' imprisonment. Tho case against Lyons was dismissed. I ' MAINTENANCE CASES. Thomas Codyrc. was ordered to pay 6s. ii week towards the maintenance of his son at the training larm at Nelson. Monica. M'Grnth was ordered lo pay ; ss. a week towards the support of ; her child, and was also ordered to ' pay £1 past maintenance. i Bernard M'Kenna, who was in ar-
rears on two orders, £8 15s. and £13 las. respectively, was sentenced to throe mouths' imprisonment oa each charge, tlio terms to bo cumulative, ho warrant to issue unless applied for by complainant. 'Harry Burke, whose arrears totalled £13 ISs.. was sentenced to throo months' imprisonment, no warrant to issue so long as lie pays 10s. a «eek in reduction of the arrears. Claude Mitchell, whose arrears «t----alled £7 2s. 6d., was sentenced lo three months' imprisonment, and' was ordered to pay 425. costs. Susan Moran proceeded against nor husband, AVillia.ni Frederick Moran, for a separation order and niiuntenanco, After hearing evidence separation was granted, and defendant was ordered to pay 20s. a woek towards tiie support of Iris wjfe, aud was also ordered to pay 425. solicitor's iee. Duncan M'Nnb was ordered to pay ]os. a week for the maintenance of each of his two children, also to pay past maintenance £34 2s. Cd., and solicitor's fee £2- 2s. I'Ved. Rjddehough was ordered to pay 10s. a week towards the maintenance of his wife. Jessie Adeline Howard proceeded ngainst her husband, William James Howard for separation, maintenance and guardianship of the children. The case wok up the greater part , of the afternoon, and after hearing ovidame, the Magistrate said that the defendant was a. sober man, not a gambler, and was an industrious mechanic, lha trouble between the parties arose through financial affairs, and in these disputes the defendant struck his wife end she was justified in leaving ler home.* An order was made for separation and guaradianship of the three children, and maintenance was fixed at 255. per week and past maintenance £6 6s.
