STRANDING OF A STEAMER.
Sir,—ln reporting the stranding of the -^— on Seatoun beach on , Saturday last, your issue of to-day states that "between 7 and 8 p.m. the anohor dragged and before enough steam could be raised to steam off-shore the steamer had drifted broadside on." In justice to tho engineroom and stokehold staff of the ship, who take exception to the statement that there ■was insufficient steam, permit me to say that a reliable member of tho crow has advised that not only was a full head of steam on. when the vessel dragged and went ashore, but that the i toilers were actually blowing off, and this head, of steam, was maintained from tho 'time she anchored right up to 3 a.m. on Sunday, and the same j quantity was there when the tugs arrived'at 6.30 a.m. ■ .': Trusting you will publish this in i the. interest of the 'staff mentioned, which was on. watoh and watch all night,—l am, etc., ■ !■, W. T. YOTJNG, Gen. Sec. Seamen's TJnion. April 8, 1918. [We are in a position to'confirm the e statement mado t>y Mr. Young. Our in- ' formant in the matter was m error.] i
