The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke, C.M.G., M.P.) will preside, and tho speakers will include the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, Sir James Allen, and others. Five city bands will enliven the proceedings, and the whole programme should be of exceptional interest. There has already been a large sale 'of tickets for the matinee performance of "Mr. Manhattan," the musical comedy, to be staged at the Grand Opera House on Saturday afternoon next in aid 'of the Red Jersey Fund, "Mr. Manhattan" has won much popularity, and would attract a full house, but interest has been added to the occasion by the fact that eacli purchaser of a ticket is to he given an opportunity to win two £5 War Bonds, donated by the J. C. Williamson, Ltd., nahagement. Probably there is no moie deserving appeal than that of the Salvation Army Red Jersey Fund, because it is a well-known fact that tie Aimy 'enjoys special privileges,- mainly because their officers are allowed to operate in Germany, consequently they hove been enabled to considerably assist in supplying the needs of *the prisoners there of the Allies. Then, tigain, the Salvation Army have under their special care, mostly in England, a large number of wives and babies of our brave soldiers, who ure either still fighting in the trenches cr who have died for us. There are constant calls for funds from the public, but we really cannot do enough towards providing comforts for those who are every minute risking their iives for those of us who have to remain at home. ,Tho plans for the Matinee will I be opened at the Bristol on "Wednesday mornings
