A .LIFETIME CAlfc. Mr. John W. Bate, the great efficiency engineer, has, in.designing the "Mitchell," aimed at a lifetime cart Two Bate-built Mitchells, still in good condition, have run over M,OOO miles apiece. Seven of them are known lo have averaged over 175,000 Iniles apiece, or more lhan 30 years' ordinary service. So far as we know, no cither car ever built has approached theme enduraucs records. Those records, however, were made by Mitchell, built under former standards of 50 per cent, over-strengllh. That was the standard Mr. Bate adopted years ago. It made him, at thrat time, seem an extremist. Other engineers argued that in ordinary driving no such' margin oT' safety was necessary. But that overstrength is what made Mitchell Cars render their marvellous sen-ice. But three years ago Mr. Bate spent a year in Europe. There bp found a standard, amongst foremost engineers, of 100 per cent, over-strength. ■ 'that standard was basod on European roads. It would not nwan '.bat much margin here. But it suggested lo Mr. Bate the eaiue double stii-ngth, based on less favourable conditions. Since then Mr. Bate 'has constantly worked to double our margins of safety. He has worn out fifty ear's in learning the needed strength. He has invented tests to prove that eiew vital part has twice the strength required. 'This vear, for the fitst time, we announce that Mitchells jn all important parts have 100 per cent, over-strength. That is, they are built to twice the strength standards olf tho Mitchells which made those records. Over I'M) parts are built of toughened steel. All parts which j;et a major strain aro built of Cbrome-Vaiiadium, mid built over-size. Axles, gears, steerVng and driving parts are constantly tested for this double strength. The factory ".nalvae all steels to ensure it, and parts are subjected to tremendous factory tests. Call and inspect the latest 5 and 7-nasi-cnger Models at IN&I.IS BKOS.
