ATTEMPTS TO DIVIDE THE ALLIES CZERNIN'S ALLEGATIONS DENIED Paris, April 4. ' M. Clemoncdau, in an interview regarding Count Czernin's poace allegations, merely replied: "Czernin has lied." ' Washington, April 4. Count Czernin's speech is regarded as a "peace drive," and an attempt to insert a wedge between British and French. The move is doomed to failure." The "New York Times" says:— "Count Czernin is deluded if lie thinks he can accomplish anything by such a speech. The Allies are determined that Alsace shall be restored. We will not cease fighting, and we will not listen to peace talk until German power is utterly crushed." The "New York World" says: —"The Allies have further evidence, in ■ Count Czernin's speech, that he is owned body and soul by Berlin." Tho "New York Herald" says:—"The spi'cch is an unmistakable sign that the German offensive is breaking down."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ANOTHER AUSTRIAN STATEMENT REGARDING PRIVATE POUR- • PARLERS. (Rec. April 5, 8.35 p.m.) Amsterdam, April 4. The "Nieue FreiePresse" states that before the beginning of the offensive President, Wilson and Mr. Lloyd George tried to induce M. Clemenceau to accept the principle of opening pourparlers with Germany of a private and not binding character.' M. Clemenceau refused, and threatened to resign.
