LIBERTY WAR LOAN
Sir, —We aro now at. the most critical period of the war, when every ounce of available energy is needed at the front to meet the onslaught of a ruthless enemy, whose aim is'militajy world domination, and whose tracks in this direction are a bloody trail of atrocities and scientific butchery, which makes us shudder for the future generations of humanity if such an aim were possible of realisation. When we read of the extraordinary cases of heroism and devotion to duty during this terrible ordeal of stemming the tide of invasion, it galvanises us at home to a tremendous pitch of enthusiasm for tfhe wonderful deeds of our troops, aud .'at this'critical stage in the Empire's history we must show our chaps that'.while."they are putting in every' ounce of weight. Nt the front we are doing tEe. same, thing, here by vol-1 untarily over-subsoribing to the War Loan put on the market for the prosecuting of our righteous cause. To attain this object everyone capable must help, in some way or another. Those with means at their disposal ! must, never let it be said .that' while our troops were making , suoh tremendous sacrifices at the front they at' home living in safety and comfort were shirking their financial responsibility. , To my mind the financial shirker is | infinitely worse than the military one, and if there are any, which at this stage let us hope there are not, then may the powers that be set the machinery of the law in motion, and not only compel them to disgorge, but name them, and give them the publicity they deserve. The Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association are taking a keen interest in helping to raise this Liberty War Loan, and hope to have the hearty co-operation of the people o? the Empire City, of the Dominion in furthering this worthy object- Being business men, they look'upon this loan not only as a sacred duty, but as a sound busrness i investment,. and : would ask.anyone wishing to invest anv amount, large or small, to communicate with them at 10, 12, 14 Victoria fetreet. Their services are being given gratuitously, and no brokerage or anv charge whatever is made. If , this effusion is rather lengthy T hope the end justifies the means.—l am, eto^, , ALBERT M. SAMUEL. 13-Mouiit' Street, Wellington.
