A public farewell was tendered on Thursday evening, in Lower Jlntt Lyceum Theatre, by residents of the district, to Privates J. E. Baker and R. Jackson, of the. Thirty-sixth Reinforcements. Councillor VI. Cotton presided. Mr. Baker is » member of the Baker Motor-bus Company, Ltd., and Mr. Jackson was in the servico of that firm. The chairman spoke of the courtesy and popularity of the guestß, and, on behalf of tho residents and patrons of tho buses, presented Mr. Baker with a wristlet watch and Mr. Jackson with a safety razor. He als»., on behalf of Mr. ■Turner, presented Mr. Baker with a piece of cullory. The guests were enthusiastically cheered. Occasion was also taken dtirjug the evening by a. director of the Baker Motor-bus Company to present Mr. Jackson with a money-belt. The arrangements were carried out by tho chairman and Mr. G. Anyon. Tho following contributed items:—Misses Williams, Cross, and Ophir Cotton, Messrs. G. Anyon, Emmett, Parkinson, Lockyer, nnd f!impson, and an orchestra composed of Messrs. Taylor, Shearer, Grantham, nnd Bryant The pianists were Miss Lewis and Messrs. F. Pilcher and Simpson.
