J Mr. S. : E. M'Cnrthy, S.M., presided j'ever a sitting ' of the ' Magistrate's ! Court held yesterday. I Aiice Kich, a single woman, was oharged with being found drunk, also with wilfully ' damaging a bucket, i valued at 12s. 6d., the property of the J New Zealand Government. It was j stated in evidence that accused was j found lying on tho footpath in Knigge Avenucj with a bottle of beer in her hand. "When locked up, she started [kicking tho cell and her shoes had to be removed., Sho then picked !up a sanitary bucket, and hammered the door with that, damaging the bucI ket. Accused made a variety of excuses, and contended that sho had not been drunk. The Magistrate, in reprimanding her, said: "You aro a woman who gets drunk, and then bocomes violent; and you come here 'and tell lies to get out of your trouble. That is the position." For being drunk she was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, and for damaging the bucket sho waa ordered to pay 12s. 6d., the amount of the damage, in default one month's imprisonment. Rose Agnes M'Muller, charged with insobriety, and against whom there was one previous conviotion, was convicted and ordered to como up for sentence when called upon, and a prohibition order to bo effective for twelve months was issued against her.

For insobriety, three first offenders wore each fined"'2os., in default fortyeight hours' imprisonment. . One of the latter, a seaman, fell off the wharf into the water, and a constable hud considerable difficulty in rescuing him. For disobeying a maintenance order in respect of his child, the arrears to April 1 amounting to £11, Gustave Myers was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, no warrant to issue unless applied for by complainant.
