WELCOME TO NEW MINISTER.. ■ A largo gathering assembled last night ■ in' the Vivian Stae? Baptist Church, to welcome the new minister, the Rev. S: Beckingham, from Canterbuiv Baptist Church, Melbourne. Mr. A. Hoby, senior deacon of tho church, occupied the chair, and the meeting was'■ opened with the National Anthem, The chairman was eupported by the Bev. Mr. Rollings, vice-president of the Baptist Union, who apologised in tho absence of the Eev. J. K. Archer, president of the union, who ia now chaplain to'the fowes/ and' was unaWe t6 be present. Mr. Hercus, pastor of the Berhamporo Baptist Church, offered prayer,- and the Petone Baptist Churoh was represented by. its minister (Rev. Erio Evans). Other neighbouring ministers, who • addressed words of welcome, included Dr. Gibb, president of the Council of ChuraheH, and representing the Presbyterian Church,-Eev. Mr.Hunt (Congregational), Rev. J. G.' Chapman (Methodist), Commissioner Hodder (Salvation Army), and Mr. Chu (Chinese Missioned. Mrs. Hoby, on behalf of the deaconesses and ladies of church and congregation, extended a welcome to Mrs. Beckingham, who feelingly replied. The Bev. Mr. Beckingham, on rising to speak, was received with great applause, and solicited,.the prayers, cooperation, and sympathy of his new' membership, and on his part promised to preach, serve, and love Christ, and to take an active part in all that made for civic righteousness..' , Dnring the evening a musical service was rendered, under the leadership of Mr. Freno; Mr. C. -Collins assisting' at the organ. ■ The choir sang the anthem, "Send out the Light." and a solo, "My Task," was 6iing by Mts. Denny. The ; meeting closed, Ttiffi tho Benediction.
