Canterbury anglers state that for the past few weeks trout fishing in the Rakaia, Ashburton, and Rangitata Rivers has been anything but satisfactory. Since the New Year very few fish have been caught. Some. anglers adopted the precaution of not taking out a license to fish for quinnat salmon until suphtimeß as the fish had been reported running in the Rangitata River. Up to the present time there has been no appearance of the fish in tho river this season, and doubts are now expressed as to whether any salmon will be caught this year.' Anglers who took out the dual license to fish for trout and salmon in the Rangitata have had anything but a profitable investment, as the trout catches have been very limited as compared with those of former seasons.
