NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN
The Conference of the National Council of Women continued yesterday. Tho constitution and by-kws for the Dominion were formally adopted. The scheme of organisation provides for the setting up of local branches to which the societies in the centres will affiliate. Prom tho local branches representatives on a membership basis are appointed to the National Council Committee for the whole Dominion. By this means it is hoped to get the whole of tho women's organisations in close touch with each other for combined action. A resolution, was passed by the conference that tho question of the amendment of the electoral law to enable women to be elected to Parliament should be made a prominent activity of all the local branches. It was also resolved that the Auckland branch be a'sked to specialise during the year on the study of.|Jhe question of providing more adequate home assistance for mothers with young children, and that "Wellington co-operate by studying the question in its relation to the home and school life of children. The following officers were elected for the year :—-President, Mrs. Shepherd, of Christchurch; hon. secretary; Miss Henderson; hon. treasurer, Mrs. S. E. Jackson, of Auckland. Four vice-presi-dents are to bo elected by tho local branches rf Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, ami Gisborne. It was decided to hold the next conference in dirisfcchurcb.
