SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY

EASTER WORK. , Good Friday and Easter have been helpful seasons to the men at the Sailors' Friend Society. On Good Friday the institute was open all day, and in the evening there was a fine gathering at the song service, now so popular with the sailor. The soloists were Mesdanies Soley and Donaldson and Miss V. Mueller. Mr. Moore, missioner, presided. The lesson was read by Mr. Edmanson, and Mrs. Walker was at the piano. On Easter Day- harvest thanksgiving services were held. The church looked very well, with its array _ of wheat, flowers, and fruit. The choir was augmented for the occasion hy the kindness of Madame Mueller, who sang "My Help is in Thee." Mrs. Walßer was at the organ. Mr. Moore was the morning preacher. His text was Gal. 6, 7, 8. The evening preacher was Mr. J. Harrison, who took, for his subject "Faith v. Sight." At the song service in the institute there was a large attendance, when, after hymns.chosen hy the men, sacred quartets and solos were sung hy Mesdames Mueller, Donaldson, and Gate, the Misses Mueller and P. Jones, and Mr. Gate and Caotain Macfarlane. Tea was much enjoyed. On Easter Monday an all-day picnic was held in the institute, in consequence of the wet weather, Here a merry party played many games, in which prizes donated by friends were won. The winneis wore Messrs. Allan, Pringle, Stone, Newberry, Lyons, Dolan, Johnson, JoneS, Haseldine, Mesdam<\s Donaldson and Kebbel, and Miss E. Kebbell. Lunch, tea, and supper were, provided by friends. The concert in the evening was a delightful one. The hostess was Mrs. H. Colpus, and the performers were Mesdames Walker, Alexander, and Cate, and the Misses M'lntyre,'M. Thomson, P. Jones, G. Harper, a'nd Messrs. T. E. Jones, Robinson, Dolan, Allan, mid Player. Cheers were given for those who previded the prizes, the concert, the gifts, and the hospitality of the clay.
