PATRIOTIC PAIRS TOURNEY i HEAVY GREENS. AND DEL SKIES The Wellington Bowling Centre's patriotic pairs tournament was commenced under .somewhat unfavourable conditions on Saturday morning. The heavy 'and continuous rah) which had fallen throughout Thursday iiight and at intervals on Friday had given tho greens a thorough 6oaking. A start was mado with the first round between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. under lowering skies that threat; ened to shed further rain on tho slightest provocation. As it happened, the rain held off, allowing play to continue uninterruptedly throughout the day. Owing presumably to the sodden state of the green, the Wellington Club authorities decided not to allow any play to take place oil. their green. As all tho other clubs had decided otherwise, tho centre authorities had to cast about for another green- An inquiry for the U6O of the Karori Club's green met with an immediate favourable response, and the pairs that were to havo played on the Wellington Club's green trekked out to Karorij and in the afternoon were hard at it. Dn arrival,at the. Karori Club's green the bowlers passed the following motion "We, the undersigned bowlers, desire to express our appreciation of the aclion of the Karori Club in providing a green at a moment's notice on .Easter Satuij day for the patriotic tournament, and also regret the action of the Wellington Club in suspending play.oll the same day, seeing that the other greens were being, played on, and the ? U? green was. in the opinion of the bowlers, quite fit for. play."
