Tho wicket was rather sticky at the start, but quickly improved. Cautcrbury batted first. Booth made an invaluable stand, and with the assistance of Iteece and Gordon raieed the score ateadily. Otago mado a fair start, Alloo batting with plenty of confidence. Dnrron also scored well, though ho gave several chances. When Gray look up the bowling, howover, lie quickly quietened the bco,--in&. None of the Otago. playere seemed comfortable to his deliveries. Gray wound up with a very flue average of eeven for 44. In their second innings Cantcr•bury opened eeimationnlly, Patrick bowling . North with the last ball of his first over, which, however, comprised seven balls. Four runs were then scored and with tho addition of'another run North also \vu.s clear, bowled by Patrick.
