MORE THAN £14.000,000

GLASGOW'S HNE TANK RECORD.

Glasgow has beaten all tank records. The receipts for the week winch closed on Saturday night (says "The Times" of January 25) amounted to £14,171,760. This sum was obtained during 0110 of the worst wintry weeks that Glasgow has experienced for many years. Several days of frost and a, heavy fall of snow gave way on Saturday to rain and thaw, which seriously interfered with traffic, but in spite of these conditions the tank took £5,500,102 during the day. The subscriptions included one of a million pounds from a client of the National Bank of Scotland; £250,000 from the Clydesdale Bank, making their total investment £750,000; and £50,000 each from Sir Thomas,Lipton (for Lipton, Ltd.), the Lyle Shipping Company, Ltd., and Nobel's Explosives. Lord Provost Stewart received tho following telegram from tho Chancellor of the Exchequer: "I am very proud of Glasgow's magnificent achievement; I am sure that it will have a splendid effect on the rest of the country."
