DAY OF PRAYER FOR EMPIRE
1 10,000 PEOPLE ATTEND MELBOURNE ; TOWN HALL. \ Tho fourth duy of prayer for the Em- ' pire, arranged by the All-day of Prayer Council, was held in the Melbourne Town : Hall on March 18. Seldom before in ! Melbourne lias thero been such a large i gathering for . intercession. People of ! almost every walk of life, belonging (o almost every chmoh in the community, and others,*to the estimated number of an aggregate attendance of quite 10,000 ', citizens, met with the common and great I purpose of praying for the Empire in Its ■ many ramifications. Tho leaders and ; their assistants were representative of ' many and varied interests. The btalo Parliament; was represented by Mr. Edgar, '• MLO , Mr. Greenwood, M.L.A., and Air. ! Snowball, M.L.A. Tho international inI (crests of tho Y.M.C.A. were finely voiced ! by Mr. J. J. Virgo, who lias been inces- : santly travelling- in the interests of the ,mm at tho front. The evening hour, in charge of "Commissioner" Hay, was made ■ particularly impressive by a full Mil, ' 1) T n larpo gathering of tho Salvation ■ Army workers, and by the presence and impressive utterance of Chnplam-Jlnjor 1 MacKonzie. The singing of well-known hvmns, under tho guidance of Mr. J> ; y;o Neil, was one of the features of this i great dav of prayer. A cable message j was road'which conveyed the pyeehnra of pooplo of Wellington, New Zealand. _ The ' leaders of this movement are convinced that it is making an important conrnlnii tion towards (he closer unity of Hie re- : spective denominations-all of whirt were represented in this gathering-Melbourne "Argus." ■
