Earle, u-lio was the hostess, and her assistants had a very busy time indeed, so many were present. That the visitors appreciated the hospitality extended to them was very evident from the speeches which were mado and the cheers given for Mrs. Massey, the hostess, and the ladies of the club, ending with tho singing of "For They are Jolly Good Fellows." Even, the mascot, a ring-tailed opossum, was brought to tho club, and was the centre of imich attention. B'lliards and music, Miss Anderson singing several songs, and tho soldiers themselves several choruses, provided verypleasant and informal entertainment. TTie writ> ing-room was in great .requisition by the visitors, and in every way the facilities offered by the club were fully availed of., In the .evening the usual weekly dance was given, the attendance of soldiers including several of the visitors. A very oreditable result was reached | by the Havelock Ladies' Coin After- • noon Committee (Marl borough) in re- '• gard to' Red Triangle Day appeal, a total of £106 haying been reached. The crowning event in connection with this effort was the gala held in Miss Brownlee's pounds. A procession had been organised consisting of Britannia and her Allies, which included a miniature Dreadnought, an aeroplane, an ambit-1 lance with-a'wounded occupant and aj nurse in attendance, and other interesting features, not forgetting an impersonation of Charlie Chaplin, and a characterisation of "six o'clock closing," which was said to bfi very original in conception and "get-up." The I gala was considered to be quite one of tho best that had been held in Havelock, and ihe organisers are extremely pleased with the success that attended it.
