Replying to the challengc_ of Mr. Godfrey Isaacs (managing director of ■ the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company) to repeat in public the statements made in the House-of Commons in reference to the Marconi case, Sir C. E. H. Hobhouse, in a letter to the newspapers, denies that he endeavoured to induce the Telefunken Company to compete for British contracts against the Marconi Company. He also denied Sir. Isaacs's asser- ' tion that, while Postmaster-General (in 1914-15), lie admitted that Mr. Isaacs , had Jiis foot on his neck and begged Mr. Isaacs not to reveal the Telefunken negotiations, otherwise he would be forced to leave the Government. Mr. Isaacs has now issued a writ for libel against Sir Charles Hob-house.—Aus.-iV.Z. Cable Assn. THE FEDERAL CABINET FURTHER CHANGES ANNOUNCED, Melbourne, March 26. Mr. W. A. Watt, who is succeeding Lord Forrest as Federal Treasurer, will act as Prime Minister during Mr. Hughes's absence in England. Air. L. E. Groom replaces Mr., Watt as Minister of Works and Railways; Mr. Wise takes the position of Assistant Minister of' Defence; Mr. Russell is VicePresident of the Executive Council; Mr. Orchard is Parliamentary Undersecretary controlling recruiting; Mr. Massey Greene, with Senator E. J. 'Russell, assists the enlarged Trade and Customs Department. It is proposed to appoint Defenco, Finance, and Labour Councils.—Press Assn.
