BRITAIN'S MAN-POWER
ENGINEERS TO VOTE ON "COMBOUT" QUESTION. London, March 26. The Amalgamate oowety of Engineers' executive has sent out ballot papers iu reference to the comb-out, accompanied by a statement pointing out that the Premier's recent promise meant that "dilutes" will be placed in line regiments in preference to skilled workers. Tho latter will be utilised inaialy in technical units. The statement adds: "It is fair to'point out that the Amalgamated Engineers' contention on these points has thus been met." Tho balloo will close on April 5. The executive believes that the result of tho ballot will be to repudiate the result of a recent unofficial conference.. Air. G. H. Roberts, Labour Minister, describes the threatened engineers'strike as unthinkablo at this critical point, when the whole; destiny of cur country is at stake.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assii. . The secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers states that the resolution of the Manchester conference on March 24 is , not endorsed by the officials of the society, and is not binding on the members. —R'euter.
