CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKETS
By Teleeraph.—Press Association, .' Christchiirch,. March 26. ; _. Wheat is "still offering steadily, and is being readily, .taken up at the Government price. Oats are very scarce and firm, and tho suggestion lias been made that tho Government should step-in and fix a maximum l price, but oats are being wanted for seed purposes, and a restriction on prices would not bring any'more forward. Tho market is likely to be better supplied when tliero is more. thrashing done, and when the Southland ,erop is ready for the market. Oatsheaf 'chaff is, scarce so i'ar as prime quality is con-: cerned, and it is now worth £5 to 'i!s' fis. per ton, and off-coloured,'£'l'.los. to £4 15s. •There is a- considerable amount of inquiry front Auckland for potatoes, and somo business has been declined, as thero are not stocks on hand, and there will be a • scarcity of siiini>ing sriaco until utter thei Easter holidays. The market is firmer, and £4 to £4 ss. per ton is iiow.being.paid at country st/ttions. Although' many crons ■ arc affected >, by bliglit, it is found that once tho notatoes are dug and. Kent dry, the 'disease does not appear to de«'eloi) any further. Cocksfoot seed is still offering, but the quality is generally inferior, and will entail considerable loss in dressing. Best undressed samples are selling at up to 15..3d. per lb.
