HONOUR TO WHOM HONOUR IS DUE
Sir,—l and other soldiers arc very pleased to see that some little recognition has been made to some of the ladies who have worked so splendidly and unceasingly for the benefit of our boys going and gone to the front. The? have given husbands and sons to fight for the Empire. This alone is enough, but many have done more. They have given practically the whole of their time and energy in raising funds to secure comforts for those fighting, and those returning—many 'permanently disabled and others temporarily unable to look aftor themselves. For some unaccountablo reai son there have been omissions. I I suppose it would be impossible to recognise all who have done their bit, j but in some instances the omission is |so glaring that anybody would feel inclined to attribute noglcct in thoso ! whose duty it is to see that these bonjours are fairly distributed. I There may be some excuse for ladies | residing in country places being over- ! looked, ' but when it happens in big towns such as Pahnerston North, one of tho most, if not the most, energetic towns as regards raising funds for our soldiers, it does seem to mo that due icnrc has not been taTten In awarding j these honours. Thero is no occasion jto mention names, and I am sure I I would not be thanked for doing so, but l the lady I have in my mind has done jso much. She has given her sons, ! she has undertaken and successfully i carried through some of the biggest tilings attompted for tho benefit of our ■ boys Her work and untiring energy | are known from one end of the Island i to the other, yet she has been passed over. Thero are other cases 1 haye hoard about, but this case stands out so prominently ■ that all must ask "Why?" I will not trespass further on your space, but I am sureyou will agree with hundreds of soldiers that none of our best friends should bo overlooked, and that a few more names should bo added, to the honours list. No honour can either add or take from these splendid ladies, but, still . —I am. etc., m OLD SOLDIER-
[No doubt there have been very f noticeable omissions from tho honours list. Many names could Be mentioned.]
