BOWLS

EASTER PAIRS TOURNEY DRAW FOR SATURDAY Mr. S. H. Underwood presided at a meeting of the Wellington Bowling Centre held in the Wellington Club's pavilion last evening,' • A letter was received, from Mr. J. O. Eedmoud.asking tho centre if it would consider the issue of certificates to tho wiunors of the Public Service tournament (won by the P. and T. rink). After considering the matter it was decided that as the tournament was not played under the auspices of the centre they could not provide certificates. If they did so in tho case of the Civil Service games they might be asked to provide certificates - for other private tournaments.

The chairman announced that 62 rinks had entered for the Easter pairs toui«nanient. On tho motion of Mr. Sha.llcrass it was decided that the mtries bo divided into four sections cf, tight and three of ten, and that four Raines of 16 heads be played on Saturday next and three on Monday, ties at the head of sections to be placed in the finals without having to play off to a sectional finish.

The secretary (Mr. J. J. Koberte), submitting his plan of the tournament, suggested that the. ten pair sections should be played on the Newtown, Wellington, and Hataitai Clubs' greens, and the eight pair sections on Thorndon, Hutt, Petono, and Victoria Clubs' greens, Mr. J; Keith, whilst emphasising the Victoria Club's loyalty to the centre, 6aid that that club's green- was in a pretty bad way,. and his directors had pointed out that the green was very bare and badly in need of a rest. It was. intended to close down the green much earlier than even members of the club supposed.

Mr. Roberts and others agreed that the-' green was playing very well, and he was afraid'if tho Victoria green was cut out and Wellington (with only half its placing nrea available) was left in- there would be trouble.

Mr. .W. Powell said that <hey should tako-;6omo notice of what the executives of clubs said about their own greens,

Mr. G. If ogben moved as an amendment to .the .secretary's proposal that Lyall Bay be substituted .for Victoria.

This was carried on a, show of hands, Mr. Roberts: then moved that Wellington and Victoria' share the piay fixed for the Wellington green. .Another show of hands saw this negatived. ;..Mr. Roberts said that he hoped someone would seo how many of the Victoria Club's greens were in use on .Saturday and Monday next.
