AT BAGDAD
WITH THE N.Z. WIRELESS CORPS AT NEW YEAR. A most successful and enjoyable dinner and smoke concert was held at the headquarters' camp of tho Australian and New Zealand Wireless Squadron on New Year's night. The "billet" was artistically decorated with palm branches, and the whole arrangements reflected great credit on the committee, whilst the cooks excelled them-_ selves. Considering the active servics conditions of cooking and the wherewithal to cook, the menu rivalled that of a first-class hotel. Toasts were enthusiastically drunk, particularly "The Old Folk at Home," whilst an excellent musical programmo„added enjoyment to the proceedings. Tho Australian and New Zealand Wireless Squadron held a very successful sports, meeting at Bagdad on December 30. Owing to the large number of men being scattered throughout the land a full muster was not possible, nevertheless a big gathoring assembled and the fields were large. Amongst thoso present were Captain Marr, AI.C, Commandant Anssac Wireless, Captain White, whilst Lieutenant W. M'Keown. represented New Zealand.
After 3ix months of cloudless sky the day broke fine and'the blazing sun did its best to mako things uncomfortable. The results of the sports are as follow:—
low:— • • 75 yards maiden championship Spr. W. Minogue, N.Z., 1. 100 yards Bagdad championship— Spr. E. Barnes, N.Z., 1. 100 yards hurdles—Driver Fitzgerald, Australia, 1. Hop, step, and jump handicap—Sogeant M'Neish, N.Z.,1. Married' moil's race-Spr. Fairey, Australia, 1. I High jump handicap—Sergeant M'Neish, N.Z., 1. > Three-legged race—Sergeant Hayman and Spr. Minogue, N.Z., 1. iV-of-war—Five teams entered. Won°by I Station, N.Z., No. 1 team. 1 Paniwallahß and Sweepers' Hat race —Won by Gunga Dhin. In tho evening a. dinner (?) was given.' ' . A most successful and enjoyable open-air concert was hold a few nights later, when Captain Man- 'presented the prizes to tho successful sports competitors, Items were given by Captaiu Marr, Sergt. Olsen, Sprs. Naylor, Goodwin, Lawn, Grinlinton, Corporal O'Hagan (New Zealanders), andSprs.' Thompson, Wilson, Fitzgerald, M'Dougall, and Flanagan (Ossies.). The evening concluded with for the captain and performers and "God Save the King." '
