M'Carthj, S.M., pressed over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday and dealt'with the police and ! . maintenance cases. % soldier named Harry Holland was charged with obstructing Constable' Daniel Driseoll while in the execution of his'duty. The constable was engaged in arresting a drunken seaman on a tramcar, when the defendant jumped up on the car and endeavoured to prevent the constable carrying out his duty. The defendant pleaded guilty, and as" he had a record of convictions he was senteuced to a month's imprisonment. Catherine Smith pleaded guilty to being found drunk. There was one previous conviction against her and she was lined 205.,. with the alternative of seven days'-imprisonment.. One first offender for insobriety was Biied 10s., in default 24 hours' imprisonment, two others were fined 20s. each with the opt ; on of 48 hours prisonment, and a fourth was convict--1 ed and ordered to be handed over to ! the military authorities. ■
MAINTENANCE CASES... Ruth AYhiting, for disobedience of a' maintenance order, the arrears amounting to £3 10s., was sentenced to a month's imprisonment, no warrant to issue unless applied for by coinplara- ' John Skipper, whose arrears totalled £12 10s., was sentenced to a month s. imprisonment, no warrant to. issue unless applied for by complainant. Charles 0; Clarke, whose arrears amounted to £6, was sontenced to sis weeks' imprisonment, no warrant to issue unless applied for by complainant..
