THE HUIA. The Duncdin superintendent for mercantile marine (Captain Beaumont) held a preliminary inquiry last week into the circumstances of tho fire which was 3iscovered in a. case o! phosphorus in tho forward hold of the coastal steamer Huia on Saturday morning. The evidence of tho master, mate, and one of tho stevedores was taken. Tim evidence has been lorwarded on to the socretary of tho Marino Department, Wellington. An examination was also made of the vessel's hull, and it wa6 found that she had not suffered any damage as a result of the fire.
