ATTEMPT TO BREAK GAOL

(Roc. March 24, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, March 24. A sensational attempt at gaol breaking was made at Pentridge Prison. Two notorious criminals, one named Gilmour, a New Kealnnder, serving long terms, sawed their way out of tho hospital ward, bound and gagged the warder, and attempted to scale*the walls. The warder rolled down the stone staircase and succeeded in raising an alarm, manipulating the telephone with his head. After two shots had been fired the escapees both capitulatod.—Press Assn.
