A comparison of the conditions of tho trade of the Friendly Islands hetween New Zealand and Australia, is made in a letter received recently in Auckland from a trader in Tonga (says the "Herald"). As an instance, he stated that, he could land at Tonga biscuits from Melbourne at 15s. 6d. per tin of 401b., whereas from Auckland the landed cost was 235. When the vessel reached the harbour Captain Manning found it necessary to drop tho starboard anchor when ho waß about 20 yards from the wharf, as the strong wind prevented the vessel being berthed in the usual manner. A line was got to tho wharf and the ferry boat, was safely worked into hor berth. From Auckland direct tho Monowai is due at Wellington oil Monday.
